Painting (Beginners)

Course Aims

This is a two-day weekend painting workshop with artist John Busher. Busher works in a variety of mediums such as oil and acrylic on a range of different surfaces.

The programme will introduce participants to the basic fundamentals of drawing, and how this can provide a stimulus for painting. Initially explored through a variety of dry and wet media such as charcoal and watercolour, participants will investigate a number of sources that provide a framework of works made in oil. Practical workshops will support concepts such as colour theory, laying grounds, tools, equipment and contemporary approaches to paint.

Printmaking (Beginners)

Course Aims

This is a two-day weekend printmaking workshop with artist John Busher. Busher creates prints using a variety of processes such as intaglio and woodcut.

The weekend programme will be divided into two forms of printmaking, beginning with practical demonstrations in each form. Each demonstration will guide participants in the basic fundamentals of how to use drawing as a stimulus for printmaking. Over the course of the weekend participants will be introduced to relief methods, such as preparing a block, transfer drawing, cutting techniques and reduction printing. While also learning a variety of intaglio techniques such as dry point, preparing a plate, editioning and printing.

Biography

John Busher has exhibited both nationally and internationally, with galleries such as 0-0 LA (Los Angeles) and Saatchi Gallery (London), and recently shown work at Beep Painting Biennial, elysium gallery, Swansea. In 2018 his work was published in Art Maze, an international contemporary arts journal found in prominent galleries such as White Cube (London). In 2018 he received an Artlinks Bursary Award (Wexford County Council) to carry out painting research at Turps Art School (London). John has an MA in Art in the Contemporary World (NCAD) and is fully registered with the Teaching Council.
