Drawing (Beginners)

Course Aims

This is a six-week drawing workshop with artist John Busher. Busher creates drawings in a variety of media, including charcoal, watercolor and gouache.

The six-week programme will be divided into three exercises, each one introduced by a practical demonstration. The demonstrations will show participants different techniques that they can incorporate into other work such as painting and print, or as stand-alone drawings. The focus over the six weeks will be to experiment with different approaches to drawing, examining surfaces, incorporating mixed media to formal qualities such as texture, line and composition. Workshops will be delivered through a variety of wet and dry media.

Printmaking (Beginners)

Course Aims

This is a six-week printmaking workshop with artist John Busher. Busher creates prints using a variety of processes such as intaglio and woodcut.

The six-week programme will be divided into two forms of printmaking, beginning with practical demonstrations in each form. Each demonstration will guide participants in the basic fundamentals of how to use drawing as a stimulus for printmaking. Over the course of six weeks participants will be introduced to relief methods, such as preparing a block, transfer drawing, cutting techniques and reduction printing. While also learning a variety of intaglio techniques such as dry point, preparing a plate, editioning and printing.

Biography

John Busher has exhibited both nationally and internationally, with galleries such as 0-0 LA (Los Angeles) and Saatchi Gallery (London), and recently shown work at Beep Painting Biennial, elysium gallery, Swansea. In 2018 his work was published in Art Maze, an international contemporary arts journal found in prominent galleries such as White Cube (London). In 2018 he received an Artlinks Bursary Award (Wexford County Council) to carry out painting research at Turps Art School (London). John has an MA in Art in the Contemporary World (NCAD) and is fully registered with the Teaching Council.
